1. The monthly measure of consumer sentiment in Australia from Westpac & Melbourne Institute rose modestly in early March but remained well below average.

In contrast, the weekly ANZ-Roy Morgan measure has fallen further so far this month.

Westpac noted that sentiment was sharply lower among respondents later in the survey period which ran from 2-6 March.

2. Aussie households’ perceptions of their own finances compared with a year ago also rose a little in March but was below the recent peak.
