1. Food prices in New Zealand (18.8% CPI weight) rose 0.3% m/m in both original and seasonally adjusted terms in August. Monthly food inflation has moderated in recent months but has remained relatively strong.

Food prices were +1.85% q/q higher in July/August compared with the Q2 average and are set to contribute at least ~0.35ppts to quarterly headline CPI inflation in Q3.

2. Within food, eating out & takeaway prices rose a solid +0.35% m/m in August (seasonally adjusted). Prices rose a solid+0.95% in 3-month-ended terms.
