1. The key labour market ratios in Australia’s labour force report were all little changed in March.
Australia’s unemployment rate was broadly unchanged, rising slightly from 4.04% to 4.05% (and just ticking over the rounding barrier to 4.1%).
Measured employment rose +32.2k m/m (+0.2% m/m) compared with consensus expectations for +40k m/m. The employment-to-population ratio was unchanged at 64.05% after stepping down in February.
2. The labour force participation rate was also broadly unchanged at 67.76% in March after falling sharply in February.
Cyclone Alfred and associated adverse weather affected the ABS’ ability to collect responses in parts of south-east Queensland and northern NSW.
As a result, the ABS imputed 1.3% of the labour force survey sample (1.0% of the sample in New South Wales and 7.5% of the sample in Queensland). The ABS used an imputation it has used before:
