1. Nominal spending in New Zealand using credit and debit cards was unchanged in February both in total and excluding fuel purchases.
Retail and ‘core’ retail spending were both modestly higher following volatility around December and January.
Looking through the monthly volatility, total and ‘core’ retail spending rose 1.4-1.6% in 3m/3m terms in February.
2. Spending on hospitality by kiwis pulled back in February after lifting strongly in prior months.
